Spread Lively Color, Share Lasting Joy
Paper Flower Roots
My mom and I launched Amaranthus Paper & Flora, a handmade paper flower business, in 2014. For seven years we sculpted lifelike crepe-paper flowers one petal at a time and shipped our colorful bouquets all over the country.
Over the years, our work was featured by media outlets such as Design*Sponge, Martha Stewart digital, Atlanta Modern Luxury Weddings, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. We were also highlighted in social media posts by Reese Witherspoon, Better Homes and Gardens, Zillow, and more.
We loved meeting our clients and fellow flower-lovers at indie craft markets like Porter Flea, Indie Craft Parade, Made Market, and Indie Craft Experience; and we had so much fun popping up to sell our flowers at West Elm, Madewell, Pottery Barn, and local coffee shops and bakeries.
Flowers as Connection
In floral lore, the amaranthus flower signifies immortality and enduring love—a fitting name for our undying paper blooms that captured the fleeting beauty, joy, and whimsy of nature.
One of my favorite parts was hand-writing the heartfelt messages our collectors shared with loved ones to celebrate, encourage, comfort, thank, and express support and love.
This practice led me to see flowers are a fleeting means through which we draw attention to moments and feelings—they help us say, "I see you.” With their vast variety of amazing forms and endlessly nuanced colors, flowers are a medium we use to connect with each other.
A New Season
We closed the business in 2021 so I could focus on raising my young daughter, but my love of flower forms and their meaning continues to inspire my painting and writing.
